PRACTICE!

At home, sometimes you won’t feel like doing forms, or you might not feel like going to class that night. Although it can be difficult, one should keep making an effort to do the forms and come to class. Nine times out of ten, you’ll be glad you went, glad you practiced, in the face of adversity. For example, at home, sometimes I get ready to do form, and suddenly my body feels tired and heavy, or my body hurts or I become aware that I’m hungry, or it’s too cold, or that I’m not in the room I usually like to practice in. Really, these are just little things to work through. We need to let go of these nagging thoughts and do our forms in spite of such circumstances. Be disciplined and practice! Think of how good it feels to practice. It’s kind of a challenge. If you train anyway, regardless of the nagging circumstances, whatever they may be, they start to have less of a hold on you. It means you can turn your Kung Fu on in spite of that circumstance. We are learning to take back our power over the situation, over our own mind, one day at a time. It begins with our efforts in training.
